Who They Are

British Rowing's Environmental Sustainability Strategy that launched in March 2024 at the same time as announcing partnerships with The Rivers Trust and River Action to help with a key objective "To help our waters thrive".

Clean water is essential for the safety and wellbeing of everyone who participates in rowing. Whether training, competing, or simply enjoying time on the water, rowers are in close contact with the river - often for extended periods. Exposure to polluted water, especially with high levels of bacteria or sewage, can pose serious health risks, including gastrointestinal illness, skin infections, and respiratory issues. Ensuring clean, safe waterways is not just about environmental stewardship - it's a basic requirement for protecting the health of athletes and maintaining the future of the sport.
