Strength in numbers from Source to Sea

Over years of campaigning  we often feel isolated fighting to see our river cleaned up and restored.  With this in mind, we, with thanks to seed funding from River Action UK are in the process of forming a new super-group to help support, gather and include all like minded river warriors, whether in citizen science projects, litter picking, pollution campaigning or simply river users wishing to see a happy, healthy river.

Friends of the Thames will enable us all to join forces, and get a full picture of the health of our river from source to sea, centrally gathering all data in one shared place, and campaign as one voice.

We will have experts on hand in spearheading a legal campaign, with citizen science, education, events, comms and campaigning, so we can be stronger together.

Currently, FOTT is in its early stages, and is a limited company (because you can’t register a campaigning group as a community interest company), and I will be making charitable conversion, and plan to do this as a charity with members, meaning that all groups up and down the river will have a say in how FOTT is run, where the money is spent, and be included in all that goes on.

Part of our mission is to recruit new, diverse groups so that all communities from every walk of life feel that the Thames is part of their life.  Fostering a deep-seated love for her, so that future generations can learn to care and revere her, rather than manipulate & use her for our own gain. I am keen to explore eventually getting our river a personhood in law, meaning that she’d have the same rights as us humans.

By becoming a member you will receive a monthly newsletter, and be invited to join an online members meeting every month.  If you are a citizen scientist, or in a group, we would love you to share your data, we are designing an interactive map, that will hold all data in one place, giving us a picture of the Thames' health from source to sea.  We would also like to fill in any gaps in testing along the whole of the Thames catchment.
